Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, aims to remove the excess skin and to restore weakened or separated muscles. It is combined with liposuction to get rid of the unwanted fat. After this operation patient will have a flat and firm abdominal profile.

Even a patient who has a normal body weight can need an abdominoplasty operation. The cause of loose and saggy skin on the tummy are usually:

The main goal of tummy tuck operation is to get rid of the excessive skin located in the abdomen area. This operation can be combined with different operations such as liposuction or breast operations. Tummy tuck operation is performed under general anesthesia and it takes approximately 3 hours.

One month before the operation we will ask you to Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, vitamins and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding. Further information regarding the medication usage will be given you by your health consultant. Since after the operation we will ask you not to carry heavy loads we will ask you not to travel with a heavy luggage. We recommend you to bring comfortable clothes.

The operation consists in four phases. The beginning phase is the anesthesia, your operation will be performed in general anesthesia. Then the second phase is the incision, a full tummy tuck requires a horizontally-oriented incision in the area between the pubic hairline and belly button. The length of the incision may vary due to the amount of excessive skin that the patient has. A second incision around the navel may be necessary to remove excess skin in the upper abdomen.

Once the excess skin is trimmed and the remaining skin is sutured the upper abdominal skin is pulled down.  A new opening for the belly button will be created and then it will be positioned. Then the third phase is closing the incision.  Final phase is seeing the result. Even if the result of the operation is seen right after the operation, the final result of this operation is seen once the swelling and fluid retention is gone so it might take up to 6-12 months.

After the operation, the patient is transported from the operating room to the room wearing a special forming corset. This corset helps to control swelling and compress the skin to your new body contours. It is recommended to wear it for 6 weeks after surgery. Additionally you might have small drains that will be removed 1-2 days after the surgery which help to remove any blood or fluids. Excersice after this operation is recommended after 6 weeks.
